The kitchen is the most logical place to start since this is where I spend most of my time. Let me first say that my kitchen is clean at least once a day – for about 5 minutes. For the other 1435 minutes of the day, I can’t promise anything. I’ll be the first to admit that my kitchen is butt ugly. But, I’m content with it. Its functional and has just enough space to prepare a healthy meal for my family. My goals in the kitchen are:
- clear counter tops and appliances – I only have a microwave, a candle, and hand soap on the counters and just a small ikea plant on the fridge. I really prefer a clear fridge, but sometimes we show off Ronnie’s latest painting on the front before it goes into his keepsake box.
- only as many dishes as we need and use.
- only as much food and pantry items as we need and use.
- a clutter-free space.
Some of our dishes are missing from the cabinet here. We have 8 settings, but I hope to get us down to only a 4-setting set before the end of the year. Really, it only means I’ll have to wash the dishes more. Also, the rest of our Klean Kanteens are missing because we use them all the time. You’ll notice I save all kinds of jars. They are perfect for leftovers!
Just outside of the kitchen I have this shelf for our coffee pot, chips, bread, rags, and kid toys. I actually hate how you can see stuff sticking out of the top, but I’m living with it for now.
